Frequently Asked Questions

Help for people already using Notion Recall.

Syncing with Notion

A database doesn't appear in the app

Most often the database was never shared with Notion Recall. Open the database selection screen and tap the Notion connection banner at the top, then add the database (or a page that contains it) in Notion's authorization screen.

If you just granted access, wait a minute and sync again — Notion can take a short while to apply new permissions.

Also check that the item is an actual Notion database (table, board, gallery, timeline, etc.). Plain pages cannot be used as decks.

Changes I made in Notion are not showing up

Notion Recall does not sync in the background. Tap the sync button in the deck header to pull the latest data.

If a property you added in Notion is missing, open the deck's card style settings and map it to the front or back of your cards.

Does the app change my Notion data?

No. Notion Recall only reads your databases. Study history, ratings, and bookmarks are stored on your device and are never written back to Notion.

Your data

Where is my study data stored?

Everything — synced cards, study history, ratings, and bookmarks — is stored only on your device. Notion Recall has no account system and no cloud storage of its own, so your study data never leaves your phone.

How do I back up my study data?

Use your device backup. On iOS, an iCloud Backup (or an encrypted Finder/iTunes backup) includes Notion Recall's local data, so restoring that backup onto a device restores your study history with it.

There is currently no in-app export. If you only need the card content itself, that already lives safely in Notion.

I changed phones — how do I bring my study data across?

Restore your new device from an iCloud or encrypted computer backup of the old one, then open Notion Recall and sign in to Notion again. Your decks and study history come across with the restore.

If you set the new device up as new instead, study history from the old device cannot be recovered. You can still sign in and re-sync your databases — you will get all of your cards back, just without the past study record.

Can I use the same study data on my iPhone and iPad?

Not at the moment. Because study data is stored per device, each device keeps its own progress even when both are connected to the same Notion account.

You can sync the same databases on both devices — the cards will match, but streaks and mastery will be tracked separately.

How do I delete my data?

Settings → Delete local data removes synced cards and study history from the device while keeping you signed in. Deleting the app removes everything.

Neither action touches your original data in Notion.

Account and workspace

How do I sign out of Notion?

Open Settings → Log out. This clears the connection to your Notion account from the device.

Your study history stays on the device, so signing back in with the same account picks up where you left off.

How do I switch to a different Notion account?

Log out from Settings → Log out, then tap Continue with Notion and sign in with the other account.

If your browser keeps you signed in to the previous Notion account automatically, sign out of Notion in the browser first, or use the account switcher on Notion's sign-in screen.

How do I switch to a different workspace?

On the database selection screen, tap the Notion connection banner at the top (it shows your current workspace name). Notion's authorization screen opens again, where you can pick a different workspace and choose which pages to share.

How do I change which pages Notion Recall can see?

Use the same connection banner. Adding pages there makes new databases available to sync; removing pages hides them from the app.

You can also review and revoke access from Notion itself, under Settings → Connections in your workspace.

Plans and billing

What do I get with Plus?

Plus removes the one-database limit and unlocks flash training, forgetting-curve review scheduling, the dashboard, and streak badges.

I paid but Plus features are still locked

Open Settings → Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account you used for the purchase.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple: open the iOS Settings app → your name → Subscriptions and cancel there. Plus stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Still stuck?

If none of the above helps, get in touch and describe what you were doing when the problem happened — including your app version, which is shown at the bottom of the Settings screen.
